BUCS Indoors

One of the most prestigous archery competitions, with about 700 archers from most of the UKs universities attending in 2015. BUCS comprises a Portsmouth round held at the Telford International Centre. In recent years each University has been limited to approximately 15 places, so selection will be based on performance and there is a qualifying score.

BUCS Outdoors

The big one. A weekend of archery, badly erected tents, a campsite that looks like The Hobo Apocalypse, dodgy burgers and equipment failure. Not to be missed. Day one is a WA1440 for the Seniors and a similar round with slightly shorter distances for the Novices. Day two is a Head to Head, a format you will be introduced to in the ULAC Novice championships.

BUTC

One of the few team championships we attend, with a turn out of roughly 20 universities each year. We send an A and B team, each comprising 3 archers. The competition comprises of a Bray I seeding round followed by a hit and miss head to head, shot at Beiter hit and miss discs. This is always an exciting and extrememly loud event, so if you aren't able to compete, attending as a cheerleader is heavily encouraged.

ArchFest

Archfest is an annual archery tour hosted in Amsterdam.

Additional Competitions

We also send teams to the Middlesex Open Indoor Championships annually, and have attended numerous other competitions, including the Surrey Open Indoor Championships and shoots at Stag Hill and Oxford. During the outdoor season we regularly attend the Aquarius Albion Easter shoot, Crystal Palace Open, the Royal Richmond Pagoda shoot, and Middlesex Outdoors. Archers interested in attempting a National Ranking over the outdoor season may also attend a number of other competitions, including the Surrey Archery weekend.

Competitions

ULAC is very active and competitive and likes to provide as many competition opportunities as possible. Last year the Novice and Senior teams took medals and won trophies in several competitions and series including BUCS Indoor and Outdoor, South East Archery League (SEAL), E-League and the Worcester League. Several members also had individual success in open competitions, including Middlesex County Indoor Open and Oxford. We aim to build on that success this year and will be encouraging novices to get involved almost from the beginning. Inter-university series and leagues start early and we want to make sure you are ready.

The season starts fairly soon after the start of the Autumn Term with the E-League at the end of October.

After just a few weeks there will be the opportunity to visit one of our offsite venues, Caxton House, to try your hand on the full 20yd range. This can be daunting but you will be surprised at how far you will have progressed in the first month.

E-League

A postal league with 5 Portsmouth rounds ending in Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb and March. The round is shot at Caxton House on a Sunday. All members can shoot and the best scores are registered. The 4 top Seniors and 3 top Novices make up each team for that month.

Both the Senior A team and the Novice A team won their divisions and so will move up to the first division this year. Novice B team came second in Div 3 and will move up to Div 2.

South East Archery League (SEAL)

This will be your first face to face competition, an inter university series of 5 matches at different venues. The venues vary every year and further details will be made available closer to the time. Each leg consists of one Portsmouth round, with the top scorers on the day contributing to the novice and senior team scores. We will take as many people as possible but some venues have limited space.

Middlesex Postal Worcester League

Another postal league, a Worcester round which uses a different face, smaller and black with white lines, but still at 20yds. 5 arrows are shot each end at a target with 4 faces. One archer will shoot at the top left hand and one at the top right hand. Halfway through the shoot archers will change to the bottom faces. Like the E-league, each month our top scores are posted and the top scores make up the A and B teams. The A team will comprise the absolute top scores, and the B team will be composed of the top novice scores. Again, there are 5 rounds and we compete against other non-student clubs in the Middlesex area.
